Visiting Mama Jane 2017

Mama Jane is doing good :)

Last may I visited Mama Jane. I spend a week in Jinja to see how the children, Agnes and the staff are doing. So great to be there and see so many positive developments again. Adequate staff (teachers & caregivers) who take good care of the children. The property looks good and the washing rooms are renovated, thanks to the sponsorship in Akersloot. The batteries in the solar system can be replaced, so that the energy bill remains low. The students of KDG have made sure that the courtyards are cheerfully painted. I saw a lot of new inspiration in the craftroom; Bags of rice and sugarbags, chains of paper and tablemats of bottle caps in all colors. Maybe start a shop here?

Fewer children in the orphanage

About 45 children live in the home now. That is over 20 children less than a few years back. Mama Jane is busy searching for (sometimes distant) relatives of the children. The idea is that more children can be placed in "ordinary" families, with financial support from Mama Jane. A new Ugandan law includes this as well. Closing the orphanage is not in question; there will always be children who need this special care.

Mama Jane and the foundation have the desire to find a place for each child, preferably within a family. It is a big challenge to ensure the well-being of the children. A child is sometimes claimed by "family", after which they let the child work for them on the land. Or worse. Mama Jane's management has therefore be very careful.

Party-time!!

On Friday afternoon we organized a big party. No other reason than to have fun! And we did.. With contributions of some nice people, we arranged good foods, drinks, a dj with great music, presents, cake and candy. There was lots of dancing, laughing and everyone enjoyed so much! I share some party pics on the website and Facebook, so you can see for yourself!

Mama Jane Children Care Centre

Vulnerable children deserve a promising future

Mama Jane was founded in the 1980s. During this turbulent times hundreds of thousands of people died during the reign of Obote and Amin. Many children became orphans. They were taken in by Jane, to whom the orphanage is named.

Due to civil wars, HIV and poverty, Mama Jane's existence remains highly needed to take care of children.
