Frequently asked questions ... with answers

Take your time to read the frequently asked questions. Isn't your question answered? Do not hesitate to send a message.

Can I be a volunteer at Mama Jane?

Mama Jane Foundation is commited to the orphanage but is not about who can go there as a volunteer. We believe that if you want to work as a volunteer you must have a thorough preparation and that we can not give you. Simply because we work during the week and we are not employed by the foundation. We can send you to the Foundation for Youth and Mission Through this foundation we have been all three to Mama Jane. They have contact with the orphanage and give you a good preparation. See the website Dare2Go (Youth and Mission Foundation) for more information .

Can I do an internship at Mama Jane?

In fact the same answer as to the previous question, but there are exceptions. If your research assignment is put well together and the orphanage in the mission also sees added value then we can help you to make the contacts.

How do I deposit money into the account of the Foundation?

Use the account of Mama Jane the foundation :

  • ABN AMRO IBAN: NL41ABNA0616679068 at Tilburg (Netherland)

Stichting Mama Jane
IBAN: NL41ABNA0616679068

Is it possible depositing directly money into the account of Mama Jane in Uganda?

Yes, that's possible. But you do have to pay transaction costs. Send an email to the treasurer for details

How do I know the money is received?

Monthly we are sending confirmations (by email). At the end of the year you will receive an annual statement (by email or by post)

Is money really used for the right purpose?

The only charges the foundation make is for transaction costs of the bank (1 percent) and for Chamber of Commerce membership (€ 26.14 in 2010). The board can not claim any costs. By example for:

  • sending letters
  • telephone charges for calls to Uganda
  • the cost of hosting the website, etc

How often is money transferred to Uganda?

once a month.

Sponsoring a child. What are the costs per month?

We leave that entirely to the sponsors how much they want to sponsor. All the deposited money will benefit the orphanage and it is first paid the school fees for all children. Any contribution is welcome and appreciated wholeheartedly. Yet people often ask how many euros you can sponsor a school child per month. The rule that we always give is this:

  • € 12.50 per month you can sponsor a child who goes to primary school (incl. Uniform, school materials, ff. Physician costs, etc.)
  • € 25, - per month you can sponsor a child who goes to high school (including uniforms, school materials, and following doctors' fees, etc...)

Is it possible to deduct my deposit as gift tax?

Yes, you can deduct them (ordinary gifts) as long as you can prove it (using bank statements). We are a Dutch institution with an ANBI statement and we deliver with our gifts in a sense development. This information is only valid for Dutch taxpayers. Every other country uses it's own tax rules.

In Memoriam Agnes Nabawanga

Agnes was a very wise woman. She inspired and motivated. Brian, who grew up in the home, put it like this: "She was a mother to me and many. To us she wasn't just a caretaker, but a mother who sacrified a lot and did all she could to see that we reach somewhere.
